Bache-Martin is proud to offer a number of different afterschool programs for our students. Information will be posted when available.

***Please remember that most of these programs do not run on early dismissal days.***


Programs held at our school:​

Bache-Martin Extended Day Program

(K - 5th Grade | Mon-Fri 3:05-5:45pm, except half days)

The Bache-Martin Elementary School Extended Day Program was founded in 1987 to provide Bache-Martin students with a quality afterschool program because their parents are employed or furthering their education. Members of the Bache-Martin staff provide supervision, guidance, and instruction in a safe, friendly and comfortable environment. Please note: The Extended Day Program does not operate on professional development days (early dismissal).

2018-2019 Session

  • Starts on Monday, August 27, 2018.
  • Ends on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
  • Cost:
Early membership (to 4:30 pm): $900/year, divided into 10 monthly payments.
Late membership (to 5:45 pm): $1,200/year, divided into 10 monthly payments.

Please remember the payment is in the form of a Money Order, payable to Bache-Martin Extended Day, and it is due at the beginning of each month. Please write the name of all children being paid for on the money order.

Choir After School Program
(3rd-6th Grade | Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15-4:30pm)

Launched in fall 2013 to expand the music training for children in underserved schools throughout the city, the Settlement Music School's Music Education Pathways program is generously supported by the William Penn Foundation and serves as a model for how arts education can change lives and whole communities.

This year-round program will focus on teaching students how to grow and develop singing skills, play music games and prepare for several concerts including a concert at Temple Performing Arts Center in May!

This year, Ms. Fiero will have two groups: Choir and Chorale. 

Open to ALL students 3rd-6th
Will rehearse 3:15-4:00. 

Open to students grades 3rd-6th
Will require an application and audition (stay tuned for information). 
Will rehearse 3:15-4:45 and work on additional music and advanced skills.

Please note that the students will have the opportunity to move from Choir to Chorale throughout the year.

Dream Camp
(1st-6th grade | Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00-5:30pm)

Dream Camp is a year-round program that provides students with both academic and non-academic programming. Mentors provide students with homework help, academic skills and strategies, mentoring and character development, projects, games, and more.

Students receive homework help, tutoring, literacy development, and enrichment activities.

2018-2019 program

Dream Camp also offers a 5 week summer program for grades 1-12 at Temple University (June 24 – July 26). After School Students are guaranteed a spot in the summer program!

First Lego League
(4th-8th grade | Mondays and Thursdays 3:15-4:15pm)

The 2018/2019 FIRST® LEGO® League season will transport our Tiger Teams into space, where they’ll explore, challenge, and innovate in the vast expanse of space. 
Applications closed on the last day of the 2017-2018 school year. Do you have a Prospective FIRST LEGO Leaguer? Enrollment for next year's team will open in 2019, stay tuned!

Girls on the Run 
(3rd - 5th Grade | 3:15-4:45pm Mondays and Wednesdays

Girls on the Run is returning to Bache Martin!  The 10-week season will begin on Monday, September 17 and run on Mondays, and Wednesdays, from 3:15 to 4:45.   

The program is open to girls in third through fifth grade.  At each practice, girls participate in interactive running games while learning skills that promote social-emotional well-being. 

The season will conclude with a 5K race.

We need coaches!
Are you interested, or know someone that is interested in working directly with a team of 3rd-5th grade girls? Coaches teach them healthy lifestyle lessons while training them for the culminating Girls on the Run 5K. Give and Go Afterschool Basketball Program
(1st-2nd Grade | Monday and Thursdays, 3:15-5pm)

Who We Are
Give and Go Athletics, Inc. (Give and Go, GGA) is a 501c3 Non-profit organization that is committed to social entrepreneurship by assisting people and communities to reach their maximum potential.
Give and Go uses sports and athletics to promote health, human development and informal education.
Give and Go seeks to give opportunities for children and families to prevail. We seek the combined efforts of the community to promote positive change in Philadelphia.

Give and go is an organization that encourages the community to providing a positive ecosystem consisting of parents, mentors, educators, and peer associations is an effective strategy in reducing risky behaviors in the Philadelphia community. This uplifting ecosystem needs to extend beyond the formal school day, including positive mentoring and social interactions in a safe place after school. Mentoring must also include explicitly teaching students strategies for coping with and reducing stress. Bache Martin basketball program seeks to build on children's physical skills and teach them fundamentals and teamwork.

Bache Martin Basketball will operate for 10 weeks and will focus on 6 weeks of skills development and will allow the children 4 weeks to play games against one another..

The Knight School Elementary Chess
(1st-8th Grade | Wednesdays, 3:05-4:15pm)

The Knight School, is a national chess academy, founded in 2007 by Dr. David Brooks. The idea began as a high school chess team and quickly expanded to elementary and preschool classrooms. This unique E3 approach (Exciting, Engaging and Entertaining) to teaching chess gets kids learning and solving problems while building lasting life skills. 

TKS has finally perfected chess class and is sweeping the nation with this hilarious, kid-focused, amazingly cool approach to a big, fun, genuinely thrilling chess class. Grandpa's boring chess class has now evolved into eight raging chess parties!
Join the chess party at your school and watch your child gain academic confidence, analytical ability, personal integrity, chess friends, and a self-identity as a very smart person!

Mi Casita Spanish Immersion Workshop
(K - 2nd Grade | Wednesdays 3:15-4:15pm)

Mi Casita is excited to offer an afterschool Spanish workshop to teach your child the Spanish language.

Students will explore language and culture. They will participate in fun activities and experience FULL SPANISH IMMERSION, which promotes natural language acquisition.

Music Monkey Jungle Sing Along
(K-3rd | Wednesdays, 3:15-4pm)

Music Monkey Jungle is on a mission to bring music monkeys of all ages, sizes and abilities together through music, movement, friendship, connection, dance, support, love, growth and a sense of belonging.

Join us as we sing, dance, laugh, play, move, imagine and create while focusing on melody, unison, range, dynamics, tempo, call & response and having a rockin’ good time.

No previous experience necessary, everyone is welcome - music education for all!

Philly Tutors Gaming Club 
(K -8th Grade | Friday 3:00-4:15pm)

Philly Tutors Gaming Club uses modern board and card games to teach students numerous academic and life skills!  The games are mostly “Eurogames,” which are tabletop games that stress player interaction, emphasize strategy, downplay luck and conflict, lean towards economic rather than military themes, and usually keep all the players in the game until it ends. 

Some of these games are cooperative, meaning the students are playing together against the game rather than each other.  This allows students of different ages and skill levels to play together as a team, building communication and group strategizing.

Winter I 2019 Session
  • Starts on Friday, November 30 and ends on Friday January 25 (No session on December 28 or January 18)

Snapology Robotics 
(1st - 4th Grade -- Mondays 3:15-4:15pm)

In Snapology's Real World Robotics class, students interested in technology will create robotic models inspired by real life robotic technologies. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines, and programming as they build alarm devices, earthquake detectors, robotic arms and much more. Your child will have a blast exploring the world of robotic technologies as they build, learn, and play. Please note, no class on 1/21 for MLK Day or 2/18 for President's day1st - 4th graders, no Kindergarteners please!

Soccer Shots at Bache-Martin
(K - 2nd Grade | 3:09 -4pm Tuesdays)

Soccer Shots Philadelphia is the premier children's soccer experience for children ages 2-8.  We are coming to you this fall! Soccer Shots instructors are energetic and enthusiastic and love working with children.

Soccer Shots not only teaches soccer skills, but also uses each session to teach children important concepts such as teamwork, sharing and respect. Our curriculum is expert approved and falls in line with early childhood education standards to be age appropriate and make an impact on and off the field.

We are excited to be returning to Bache-Martin for on Tuesdays after school! The classes will take place at Penitentiary Park (weather permitting), after the children are brought to Extended Day (in the cafeteria).

Spring Session II

Young Rembrandts
(K - 5th Grade | Tuesdays 3:05-4:05pm)

Our elementary-age curriculum is designed to teach basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. We believe that drawing is the bedrock skill required for future artistic success. We give them skills to express their creativity, and believe that all children can – and should – learn to draw. You’ll see increased art abilities, learning skills, self-confidence and self-esteem.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS provides all classroom supplies, and a trained instructor. Classes are held immediately after school. Parents are responsible for transportation at class end.

Fall Session II

Zumba with Kanika
Tuesdays (1st - 4th Grade), Thursdays (5th to 8th grade) 

ZUMBA with Kanika is coming to Bache-Martin! 

Zumba is an exercise fitness program created by Colobian dancer "Beto" Perez during the 1990s. Students will learn how to salsa, merenge, dance reggaeton, and hip-hop!

Dance After School at Sound Space Dance Studio
(K-5th | Your choice of 1 to 5 days a week, 3-6pm)

Dance, think, move, read, chill! Our new after-school dance and movement program happens daily from 3-6 pm, along with plenty of time for games, homework, reading and a snack break.

The program is led by dance educators with decades of elementary age teaching experience. Children will be picked up from Bache-Martin and walked to the studio (0.5 mile walk). No dance experience required!

  • Winter program starts on Wednesday, September 5 - Wednesday, December 19 
  • Cost: Depends on how many days a week you enroll your child in the program. 1 day a week, $60 a month ($199 a session), 5 days a week $200 a month ($675 a session).

Philly Art Center After School Program
(K - 6th Grade | Your choice of 1 to 5 days a week, 3-6pm)

Philly Art Center's After School Art Program in Fairmount runs all year long and includes pick-up from Bache Martin, a full art class, creative play + snack. Kids explore drawing, painting, printing, pottery and more!

Curriculum is always age appropriate, super engaging and lead by outstanding artist educators who love working with your kids! Choose 1- 5 days, pick up is by 6pm.

FAST - Families and Schools Together
(K - 2nd grade | Tuesdays 3:30-6:00pm)

FAST is a family program held after school; it gives parents the chance to spend special time with their children, and meet members of the school community. At each meeting your family will receive a free meal, family fun activities, and a chance to win a weekly prize.

The goal of the FAST program is to strengthen families by using available resources to promote parent nurturing, improved relationships and increased children’s success in school. 

Spring Program

Philadelphia City Rowing
(7th & 8th Grades | Monday & Wednesday 4:14-6:15pm, Saturday 12am-2pm)

Bache-Martin 7th and 8th grade students are invited sign-up for this FREE 8-week introduction to rowing program this fall starting September 25th through November 11th.

Participants will learn how to work as a team, how to eat healthy, the principles of rowing, and for those who do not know how to swim, learn how to swim.  Program runs Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays.

FLOW Academy 
(6th - 8th Grade | 3:15-4:45pm Thursdays)

FLOW Academy (Future Leaders of the World) presents a 6-week African dance after-school program at Bache Martin School for middle school students grade 6 through 8.

Students will be emerged in a variety of traditional and contemporary dance styles and world music from the African Diaspora. Classes are developed from a thematic learning model based on the school themes, current events and cultural
and neighborhood pride. Cost: One six-week session $50.00.​

Heart & Sole
(6th - 8th Grade | 3:15-4:45pm Mondays and Wednesdays)​​
Heart & Sole is coming to Bache-Martin! Heart & Sole a national not-for- profit after school program for girls in 6th through 8th grade, which combines training for a 5K with an interactive curriculum to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles.

Over a 10-week season, Heart & Sole trained volunteer coaches deliver a curriculum that teaches life skills through group processing, running games, and workouts. 
The 10-week season will begin on Monday, September 18th and run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:45.   

The season will conclude with a 5K race on December 2nd, 2017. 

Fall 2017 Session

UPDATE: The Heart and Sole program has been cancelled for the fall 2017 session, due to low enrollment. Please look forward to this program to return in the future. 

Spark Program
(7th Grade - Fridays 1-4pm)

Spark is a nonprofit organization that engages seventh and eighth grade students, keeping them on track and ready for success in high school and beyond through workplace-based apprenticeships that uniquely combine mentoring, project-based learning, skill building and career exploration.  

Whether your child is interested in learning how to design a house, fly a plane, become a veterinarian or pursue any other profession, Spark will connect him or her with a hands-on, engaging and inspiring apprenticeship.

The Y Achievers program is a career exploration/college prep program for grades 5th-8th at Bache Martin. This year, the program will focus on career exploration by teaching interview skills, financial literacy workshops, guest speakers and much much more!

Y Achievers is designed to help students realize their full potential. The program provides the necessary tools required to become successful in attaining goals, pursuing collegiate dreams and beyond. Benefits of participating in the Y Achievers program include:

  • Access to college scholarships
  • Relationship building and networking opportunities
  • Connection to service learning projects

Yoga for Kids by YogaHabit
(2nd - 8th Grade | Wednesdays, 3:15-4:00pm)

​Join Yoga Habit for a class designed to help you grow physically and emotionally strong. We’ll move through challenging but fun yoga poses that will build your inner and outer strength and help you get more flexible.

You’ll learn tools to help you feel calm and confident when connecting with your peers, managing school and home life. No experience needed! Mats provided.  For more information, click here
